A splendid weekend full of surprises in Upper Chora of Nafpaktos

First stop at Fokida Mining Park, the famous Vagonetto.
A unique experience to discover the bauxite mining experience and live the everyday life of miners through their own narratives.
Second stop at Lidoriki, a traditional and picturesque village in the prefecture of Fokida, built at the foot of Giona above the Morno River.
Third stop at Ano Chora of Nafpaktos at Crystal Mountain Hotel to celebrate the abundance of chestnut and tsipouro at the annual celebration.
And of course, there would not be a trip without visiting the beautiful Nafpaktos and the medieval harbor, with the well-preserved castle and the large beaches overlooking Achaia.

Here are some pictures from my visit:

Lidoriki or Loidoriki  is a village and a former municipality in Phocis, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Dorida, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. Lidoriki is built on the western slopes of Mount Giona and over the Mornos river valley. It is the centre of the mountains of Dorida. (By Wikipedia)

The Mornos is a river in Phocis and Aetolia-Acarnania in Greece. Its source is in the southwestern part of the Oiti mountains, near the village Mavrolithari, Phocis. It flows towards the south and enters the Mornos Reservoir near the village Lefkaditi. The dam was completed in 1979. It leaves the reservoir towards the west, near Perivoli. The river continues through a deep, sparsely populated valley and turns south near Trikorfo. The lower course of the Mornos forms the boundary between Phocis and Aetolia-Acarnania. The Mornos empties into the Gulf of Corinth about 3 km southeast of Nafpaktos. (By Wikipedia)

Nafpaktos is a town and a former municipality in Aetolia-Acarnania, West Greece, Greece, situated on a bay on the north coast of the Gulf of Corinth, 3 km (2 mi) west of the mouth of the river Mornos.
It is named for Naupaktos an important Athenian naval station in the Peloponnesian war. As a strategically crucial possession controlling access to the Gulf of Corinth, Naupactus changed hands many times during the Crusades and the Ottoman–Venetian Wars. It was under Venetian control in the 15th century and came to be known by the Venetian form of its name, Lepanto. It fell to the Ottoman Empire in 1499 and was used as naval station by the Ottoman Navy in the 16th century, being the site of the decisive victory by the Holy League in the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. Excepting a brief period of Venetian control in 1687–1699, Lepanto remained under Ottoman control until Greek independence in 1829.
The modern municipality was incorporated in 1946, but merged into the larger Nafpaktia municipality in the 2010 reform. (By Wikipedia)
