3 day trip to magical Porto Cheli and cosmopolitan Spetses

The first stop is Epidaurus, one of the most known archaeological sites of Greece in all over the world.

Epidaurus was a small city in ancient Greece, on the Argolid Peninsula at the Saronic Gulf. Two modern towns bear the name Epidavros: Palaia Epidavros and Nea Epidavros. Since 2010 they belong to the new municipality of Epidaurus, part of the regional unit of Argolis. The seat of the municipality is the town Lygourio. (By Wikipedia)

Here are some pictures from my visit:

The prosperity brought by the asclepeion enabled Epidaurus to construct civic monuments, including the huge theatre that delighted Pausanias for its symmetry and beauty, used again today for dramatic performances, the ceremonial hestiatoreion (banqueting hall) and a palaestra. The ancient theatre of Epidaurus was designed by Polykleitos the Younger in the 4th century BC. The original 34 rows were extended in Roman times by another 21 rows. As is usual for Greek theatres (and as opposed to Roman ones), the view on a lush landscape behind the skênê is an integral part of the theatre itself and is not to be obscured. It seats up to 14,000 people. (By Wikipedia)

Next stop is Koilas in Argolis.

Finally we arrived in Porto-Cheli and in our hotel:

Time to go to my favourite Island the cosmopolitan Spetses.

Spetses is an affluent island and a municipality in the Islands regional unit, Attica, Greece. It is sometimes included as one of the Saronic Islands. Until 1948, it was part of the old prefecture of Argolidocorinthia, which is now split into Argolis and Corinthia. In ancient times, it was known as Pityoussa and later as Petses. (By Wikipedia)

Here are some pictures from my visit:

Poseidonion Grand Hotel was Built in 1914, this grand hotel overlooks the Aegean Sea and Spetses ferry terminal. It's an 11-minute walk from Spetses Museum and 4 km from Vrelos Beach.

Decorated in the style of the belle epoque, the elegant rooms feature hardwood floors, free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs, plus minibars. Some have balconies with sea views. Suites add separate living rooms, 1 has a private pool. Room service is offered.

A complimentary breakfast buffet is served in a dining room or on a veranda. Other amenities include 2 restaurants and a bar, plus a fitness room. A spa features an outdoor pool, a steam room and massage treatments. (Hotel Details)

The statue of Laskarina Bouboulina, at the port of Spetses island. She was a Greek naval commander, heroine of the Greek War of Independence in 1821 and an Admiral of the Imperial Russian Navy.

On our way to the Old Port of Spetses.

There is only one place in Spetses than can be labeled as an all-times-classic, and this is undoubtedly “Mourayo”…In a 19th century’s building which used to be a munitions- storehouse, “Mourayo Bar / Restaurant” keeps on the tradition by setting the nightlife of Spetses on fire!
The owner, Manolis Syrmas, as the grand-grand-grand child of an authentic Greek Revolution’s Fighter, knows exactly how to create a party atmosphere!
“Mourayo Bar / Restaurant” is open since 1975 and it's the reason that the area of the Old Harbor in Spetses is traditionally the ideal place for intent nightlife. Every visitor of Spetses will choose Mourayo, to start his evening and most probably will continue and finish it there!
The place is divided in two spaces. There is a magnificent large-open veranda, right on the sea, where cozy armchairs with soft cushions, put around luxuriously decorated tables, await to comfort those who choose to have a drink or dinner. It would be a disaster not to mention that the “Mourayo Bar/Restaurant” offers excellent cuisine, in the most reasonable prices. The dishes are very special and the quality standards are indeed very high! (By GREKOMANIA.COM)

After having an amazing day in Spetses, we went back to Porto Cheli for our last night and the next day on our way back to Athens, we had a few stops for coffee and lunch, first to Ermioni, second to Palaia Epidavros and the last stop to Corinth Canal.

Here are some pictures:

Ermioni is a small port town and a former municipality in Argolis, Peloponnese, Greece on the Argolid Peninsula. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Ermionida, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 168.180 km2. It is a popular tourist resort. Palaia Epidavros or Palaia Epidaurus is a Greek small town in Peloponnese, in Argolis prefecture. Today also called Archaia Epidaurus. It is built in the same place where it was located the ancient city Epidaurus, in a small peninsula between two bays, on coast of Saronic gulf. It is 30 km east of Nafplio, and 60 km south of Korinthos. Its population is 1618 inhabitants according to 2011 census. Palaia Epidaurus was the seat of former Epidaurus municipality and now is the seat of Municipal unit of new Epidaurus municipality. (By Wikipedia)
